Chennai to host three-day international public health conference in December – The New Indian Express

CHENNAI: Health Minister Ma Subramanian has unveiled the logo for the International Conference on Public Health, which will be held in Chennai for three days in December to commemorate the centenary celebrations of the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

He launched the conference website and worked to put birth and death certificates online. Subramanian then published the second-year edition of the Public Health Bulletin.

The Department of Public Health was started during British rule in 1922 with Colonel SD Russell as Director. The conference will see the participation of health professionals and researchers from around the world. The course of the department will be exposed in the conference, specified the minister. At the end a book will be published on the achievements of the department.

Based on the Chief Minister’s announcement to the Assembly, the Health Minister said that the work of uploading birth and death certificates at Rs 75 lakh has started. As part of the civil registration system, people can upload birth and death certificates between 1969 and 2018.

Officials from revenue department, local bodies and health department in 38 districts are engaged in uploading details in 16,348 centers. Until 2018, various birth and death departments used different software.
