Emirates News Agency – Australian Commonwealth Governor General visits UAE

AL AIN, 3rd February, 2022 (WAM) — David Hurley, Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, visited the campus of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in Al Ain with the Australian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates , Heidi Venamore MSP.

The delegation learned about the history and mission of the UAEU, its teaching and research infrastructure, its research institutes and its current portfolio of research and development activities. The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation between universities and research institutes in the UAEU and Australia. with the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ghaleb Al ‎Hadrami Al Breiki, the Acting Provost, Prof. Mohammed ‎Hassan Al Qasimi, and the Associate Provost for Research, Prof. Ahmad Murad.

During a tour of the campus, the delegation was also welcomed by the entire team working at the National Center for Space Science and Technology – a joint venture between the UAEU, the UAE Space Agency and the Space Authority. telecommunications regulation. Professor Murad explained that in March 2022, the UAEU National Water and Energy Center will collaborate with the Australian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai to host an international conference, Water Resources and Sustainability: Solutions for Arid Regions”.

He added: “The event recognizes both the fruitful academic collaboration between the UAE and our Australian colleagues, as well as the current and shared challenges faced by the UAE and Australia with respect to the development, management and conservation of scarce water resources. The conference will advance techniques and practices to achieve water sustainability.” Professor Murad told the delegation that the UAE’s collaborative research programs with more than 100 Different Australian research institutes have led to 511 co-authored publications over the past 6 years.He also spoke of 12 ongoing research projects between the UAEU and several Australian universities.

He told the delegation that “the UAEU intends to expand its research collaboration with prestigious Australian universities and research institutes.”

The Chancellor thanked the delegation for their visit to campus, saying: “It is an honor for us to join you in celebrating Australia’s National Day and the valuable contribution of Australia and its citizens to the whole of the UAE community.
