A preliminary engineering report completed on the Saline County Visitor Center Project contains detailed information on cost estimates, construction analysis, and structural drawings.
The report was completed by WSKF Architects and McClure Engineering in January 2022. The report says the building design is a 2,300 square foot facility to promote economic activity and tourism in Saline, Johnson, Lafayette counties and Pettis. The report estimates that 8,128 vehicles per day travel through the site on US Highway 65; and approximately 27,762 vehicles travel daily on I-70 at Marshall Junction.
The report also details the estimated cost of the project. The estimated cost of the visitor center is $3,168,647, which includes architectural and engineering costs, site works, construction and contingencies. The reports also list the estimated costs of the Submerged Attached Growth Reactor (SAGR) wastewater treatment system for the visitor center. This is the system offered by Rhodes Engineering Co. The estimated total cost of the SAGR system is $1,574,560 including contingencies.
Saline County received a $1.6 million grant from the Economic Development Administration for the project.
