“My administration has decided that a quality education of teachers in terms of commitment to continuing professional development must be a priority,” he said.
He said there will be a special salary scale for elementary and secondary school teachers, “including provisions for rural post allocation, science teacher allocation and special allowance.”
Other promises include building low-cost housing for teachers in rural areas, sponsoring at least one refresher training per year to compare best practices to improve teaching and learning.
“Extending the annual presidential awards for teachers and schools to cover more categories and for the most outstanding,” he said.
President Buhari had also approved the reintroduction of scholarships for education students in universities and colleges of education with the assurance of automatic employment after graduation.
“The payment of allowances to undergraduate education students as well as their automatic granting of employment after graduation is now government policy,” he said.
Speaking on the implementation of the new policy framework for teachers, Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba revealed that teachers will start taking advantage of the improved salary structure from January 2022.
He further revealed that work is also underway on other incentives promised by the president on World Teachers’ Day 2020.
He pointed out that other incentives ranged from allowances, housing, training to extended years of service from 35 to 40.
“The President has approved the improved salary structure and we will be completing it very soon. The president specifically approved its entry into force from 2022, ”he said.

“As a certified teacher in Nigeria, this should be the minimum with which to come home to teach Nigerian children. I know school owners will talk about it; can we pay and all this is where the government must step in with innovative measures to ensure that overall private school teachers receive the improved salary.
On the federal government’s promise that the children of teachers in schools where parents teach will receive free education, he said this should also be implemented by owners of private schools since this is about a national policy.
He urged the federal government to develop a policy guide to ensure full implementation in all areas, insisting that new policy measures to improve teaching and learning do not only benefit school teachers. public.
