Six students from the region — Ajay Morelli, Sarah Taft, Natasha Vaughn, Marissa Boyless, Emma Wisler and Emma Gable — recently received scholarships.
Ajay, a graduate of Ida High School, received the $1,000 Key Club Scholarship, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. This prize is accessible to all secondary school students.
Ajay was president of the Ida chapter of the Kiwanis Club. He has led and assisted in several service projects, including fundraising and donations to local shelters and the Monroe Cancer Center.
He has also served as class president, vice president of student council, and a member of the National Honor Society. He will study economics at the University of Michigan.
Sarah and Natasha received $1,000 scholarships from the American Association of University Women. Sarah graduated summa cum laude from Monroe High School. She received the All SEC Academic Award and an honor from the Health Professions Student State Championship of America. She will be majoring in biology and health and society on a pre-medicine track at the University of Michigan. She will be a member of the Women in Science and Engineering Residence program.
Natasha will attend Grand Valley State University, majoring in behavioral neuroscience.
An AAUW member also provided scholarships to Marissa Boyless from Airport High School, Emma Wisler from Monroe High School, and Emma Gable from Airport High School.
