The university opens a new engineering innovation hub // The Observer
Notre Dame has opened its new Engineering Innovation Center (EIH) in the Cushing-Fitzpatrick Engineering Halls. EIH is a 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art experiential learning center that includes manufacturing, automation, modeling and robotics, according to a university Press release.
EIH is part of Notre Dame’s iNDustry Labs initiative, which forms partnerships with industries, colleges and universities to support growth in the South Bend-Elkhart area. Students will have access to EIH through courses and various clubs and organizations involved in engineering and design on campus.
The facility contains modern ideation and project space, advanced fabrication stations, 3D printing stations, metrology and calculation resources, and assembly space.
In addition, the EIH will act as a resource for local manufacturing partners and start-ups and as a manufacturing and testing facility for student research. In the press release, EIH chief executive Daryl Peterson said the hub will help students gain experience and skills that will make them competitive candidates in various fields.
